Selling Timeshares Can Be Lucrative

We discovered how lucrative selling timeshares was quite by accident. You see, we had purchased a timeshare thinking that we would use it more often than we actually did. It was in a beautiful location on a pristine lake in Vermont, but we never actually got up there. Instead, we would usually travel down south, perhaps to somewhere in the Caribbean or even along the equator. We realized that our ownership interest in the timeshare wasn't worth anything to us because we got so little use out of it. That is when we decided to sell our timeshare.

What we didn't realize was that selling a time share can make you a fortune. People are always buying and selling timeshares, so it is an extremely lucrative area for speculation. In general, real estate can be a great way to make money, but timeshares can be especially so. There is less money involved in a timeshare, which means that you can start selling timeshares with less capital investments. There is typically a shorter turnover rate with selling timeshares as compared to a house, and you aren't responsible for doing repairs and maintenance. All in all, it can be a much more practical market - especially for the small entrepreneur.

Of course, it is easy to be tricked into buying timeshares from the wrong person or for the wrong reasons. Anyone can represent a place as beautiful, simply based on it's location. But in fact many timeshares are seriously overrated. This is why, before buying and selling timeshares, you should check out the place very carefully. I have known far too many people who have actually been naive enough to buy a timeshare over the Internet based on a pictures or the word of the seller. People shouldn't be dishonest when selling timeshares, but unfortunately, it does happen. There is nothing that you can do about it, so you had best be careful.

One of the most important things to be aware of when selling timeshares is location. The age old expression in Real Estate is location, location, location. And it still applies when we're talking about timeshares. In the last couple of years, because of environmental problems as well as freak occurrences of Mother Nature, location has become a much trickier issue. It used to be that selling timeshares on the beach netted you a lot of money, but nowadays beach front property is threatened in many places. Although for now you can still buy or sell a timeshare in your average beach front community, it may not be long before this changes. Coastal property may become devalued because of the threat of hurricanes, flooding and rising tides, causing safer, further inland property, to be worth more.

Like any real estate investment, you still have to do your homework, and should seek the advice of professionals before you spend your own hard earned dollars. But, if done carefully and with sufficient research, selling timeshares can be a very profitable venture.
